Scooters are safe, comfortable, and economical ways to commute, but they can still be expensive. We here at Revel 42 Golf Carts & Powersports want to help you get an efficient ride without emptying your wallet, so we’ve put together some tips for buying a used scooter, below. Check if Parts Are Still in Production

A used vehicle of any kind is probably going to need some care and attention to make sure it stays in good shape, and if the scooter you’re looking at is old enough, replacement parts need to be a consideration. Sometimes a model or a part is discontinued, making the necessary replacements more difficult and much more expensive. See if the scooter you’re interested in requires any discontinued parts, and keep them in mind when you’re deciding what a fair price is.

See How it Runs

You’ll also want to perform a thorough inspection of the scooter and, if possible, a test drive. Keep in mind that different types and parts will react differently to aging. For example, a 4-stroke engine shouldn’t smoke at all. However, a 2-stroke engine will produce some smoke by default, and if it doesn’t, there may be an issue. Also make sure that the engine returns to idle quickly after it’s revved to ensure no part of the throttle mechanism is sticking.
