Golf Cart Battery - Lithium Ion Benefits
Golf carts are great for any type of riding, from navigating the golf course to offroading and everything in between! But your cart’s default battery is probably a lead acid version, which can be the worst of two options. We here at Revel 42 Golf Carts & Powersports want you to have nothing but the best, so we’ve put together some of the advantages a lithium ion battery has over a lead acid one. Low Maintenance
With a lead acid battery, you’re going to be dealing with a lot of corrosion and petty maintenance. You need to add water every so often, have to check acid levels, and so on. But with a lithium battery, you don’t need to do most of that! You should still check for corrosion every so often, but that’s about it.
Long Lifespan
Not only is daily maintenance down, but you’re going to have a lithium battery for a lot longer than you would have a comparable lead acid one. Where the lead acid versions will last a few years, depending on how often and much you use them, lithium batteries have lifespans that reach up to 3,000 cycles!
Fast Charging
Lead acid batteries take forever to charge fully, often requiring eight or even ten hours of charging from empty. Meanwhile, a lithium battery can recharge fully within a maximum of four hours! The battery can also be charged multiple times a day without doing any active harm to it with a lithium model.
Better Power Management
When your golf cart starts running a bit slow, you can usually blame your battery. That’s because a lead acid battery pumps out less power as its voltage dips, meaning the longer you use it, the slower it gets. However, a lithium battery doesn't suffer that same defect. You keep your speed no matter how charged the battery is, and 100% of the battery’s power is usable, which increases the golf cart’s overall range.
Cheaper, Longterm
Lithium batteries can tend to be a bit more pricey up front, but that’s more than balanced out by all the savings it generates. The longer life span means you don’t need replacement batteries as often, and the shorter charge time means your electric bill is smaller. Add to that the savings from lighter maintenance, and you come up in the black!
