Golf carts aren’t typically used in dangerous scenarios, but the world and weather are still unpredictable. We here at Revel 42 Golf Carts & Powersports want to help you keep your golf cart safe, so we’ve put together a brief guide to golf cart insurance, below. To learn more, or if you’re just on the hunt for a new golf cart, contact our store in Garner, North Carolina, today!

Legal Requirements

In North Carolina, any golf cart you want to drive on public streets is going to need liability insurance at the very least. Not all golf carts are street-legal, of course, so this may or may not apply to yours.

Benefits

Even so, it’s always a good idea to plan for the worst, and insurance is a great way to do that. Depending on the plan and provider, golf cart insurance might include:

  • Bodily injury liability, helping pay for medical expenses caused by a golf cart accident
  • Collision coverage, helping pay for repairs to your cart after a collision
  • Comprehensive coverage, which helps prepare for theft or weather damage
  • Property damage liability, which helps pay for property damage your cart causes.

Existing Insurance Plans

Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that your existing home insurance will have anything to do with a golf cart, particularly if it’s involved in an accident off your property. And while there’s a vague chance that car insurance might apply, it’s also unlikely—car insurance is designed for both street-legal and registered vehicles, and golf carts aren’t necessarily either. However, some agencies offer additional coverage specifically for golf carts, so speak to your provider to learn more.
