Golf Carts in Pop Culture
Golf is centuries old, but one of the primary tools we most commonly associate with it (the golf cart) is less than one hundred years old. Despite that, golf carts have worked their way into pop culture and the golf community in some surprising ways.
We here at Revel 42 Golf Carts & Powersports love our carts and want to highlight a few ways that pop culture loved them, too, below. To learn more, or to see the golf carts we have for sale, contact our store in Garner, North Carolina, today!
Famous Owners
From Hollywood stars to famous politicians to musical geniuses, plenty of notable people have used golf carts in notable ways—in fact, some of them helped popularize golf carts in the first place! Celebrities and celebrity golfers alike still own and enjoy their own golf carts today, whether they’re used for traveling between holes or just getting around an oversized personal property.
Among others, famous early golf cart users include the actor and singer Frank Sinatra, who once used a golf cart to express his displeasure at a casino by driving it straight through a plate-glass window in 1967. Fellow Rat Pack member Dean Martin, former presidents Gerald Ford and Dwight D. Eisenhower, and many other famous people have their own golf cart stories.
In Movies
Plenty of movies have utilized golf carts in prominent ways, both because they’re enjoyable and because they give off an air of carefree excitement for beach scenes or comedic moments. Some of the movies on this list even use the game of golf as a central plot point, though others use golf carts in many of the other settings you can find them in in everyday life.
Those movies include:
- Goldfinger (1964).
- Caddyshack (1980).
- Happy Gilmore (1996).
- The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).
- Tag (2018).
Music Videos
Many musical giants are obsessed with the game of golf, including Alice Cooper and Adam Levine. But golf carts themselves show up in any number of famous music videos, like:
- Tones and I, “Dance Monkey”.
- Rae Sremmund, “Swang”.
- DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber, and 21 Savage, “Let It Go”.
Web Shows
In 2015, the YouTube show “Celebrities in Golf Carts” came out, hosted by sports broadcaster Mark Willard. The show had Willard and famous comedian or actor guests hop in a golf cart, play golf, and chat about their work and lives.
Golf Cart Communities
That can all seem pretty impersonal, but golf carts have been integrated into a number of communities around the world. The easy and comfortable transportation makes them a local favorite for running errands or going out to dinner in:
- Peachtree City, Georgia.
- The Villages, Florida.
- Palm Springs, California.
- Bald Head Island, North Carolina.
